Advice for people with disabilities

Many discounts and benefits can be obtained thanks to the Parking Card for people with disabilities and especially thanks to the ZTP or ZTP/P card. The difference is only that ZTP offers discounts only for the cardholder themselves. ZTP/P also offers discounts for their guide/companion.

Czech Railways (České dráhy) and other carriers in the Czech Republic offer free assistance for people with disabilities, reduced mobility (wheelchair users) or orientation (visually impaired). This service includes help with boarding and exiting the train, orientation at the station or help with luggage. Assistance must be booked at least 24 hours in advance via the online form here or by phone at 221 111 122. If your journey involves a transfer between trains, the assistants will help you get off one train, take you to the other train and help you board it. This way you can also transfer between trains of different carriers. For example, from a Czech Railways train to a RegioJet train. In such a case, it is advisable to purchase a ticket through the OneTicket service, which will arrange assistance throughout the entire journey.

At the Labour Office, you can apply for a so-called contribution for a special aid. It is intended for people with a severe defect of the musculoskeletal system, severe hearing or visual impairment or a severe internal disorder. The contribution is intended for aids for self-care, work or mobility. The Labour Office usually contributes 90% of the price of the aid. The applicant pays the rest of the price themselves. Common examples include an adapted vehicle, a stair lift, a specially adapted computer, a mobile phone or a guide dog.

ČEZ offers a special product called "Electricity for ZTP", which provides preferential electricity prices for holders of the ZTP or ZTP/P card and their households. The contract can be arranged via the helpline 800 810 820 or at customer centres.

O2 provides holders of the ZTP or ZTP/P card with a state contribution of CZK 200 per month towards mobile tariffs or fixed internet or a fixed line or prepaid card. The discount can be applied to most tariffs. The application can be submitted in person at a store or sent by letter. More information here.

Airport assistance for people with disabilities, reduced mobility (wheelchair users) or orientation (visually impaired) is free of charge. An airport employee will pick you up a short distance from the airport entrance. They will go through all the checks with you and seat you on the plane. It is necessary to request it at least 48 hours in advance through a travel agency or airline. From personal experience, I recommend ordering the assistance service directly from the airport. Social benefits are a topic in themselves. In the Czech Republic, there is a large number of benefits and contributions that can be applied for. First and foremost, of course, is disability pension, although it is not classified as a benefit. People with disabilities often use the mobility contribution and the care allowance. In case of financial difficulties, it is possible to obtain a housing contribution, extraordinary immediate assistance and other forms of support.
